Portland Water Bureau Seismic Hazard Study

PWB assessed their system resiliency for both a CSZ Mw= 9.0 earthquake and a Portland Hills Fault Mw= 6.8earthquake across their entire service area. Greenfield Geotechnical led the geotechnical engineering effort for the project, which included seismic hazard, liquefaction, and landslide deformation analyses covering a range of approximately 225 square miles. To evaluate the hazards over such a wide range, Dr. Greenfield developed statistical models using data from over 1,000 borings. Dr. Greenfield then coordinated a GIS team to map the seismic hazards over the entire distribution system.
